Monthly Highlights
Below are photos and a story from the recent month's guided fly fishing trips in New Zealand's Central South Island.
November 2017
I can hardly believe the amazing Spring weather conditions we have been experiencing!
Days of bright sunshine and hardly a breath of wind have been a feature of the early part of the 2017/2018 fishing season and is a dream from a guide's point of view!
Long time client Didier, along with newcomer David, were my guests for a week just after the start of the high country opening on 4 November.
Apart from a brisk westerly wind the first day we were out, calm and sunny days once the morning cloud burnt off were the norm for the rest of the week. Of course, these are great conditions for fish spotting and, in many locations, sun is essential for success.
Didier has been a loyal client for nearly two decades and over the years has introduced many other anglers to me. Always friendly and excellent anglers to boot, they often start their tour around the South Island with me in order to gain experience of the "kiwi" way of fly fishing.
David had his pedometer with him and it was a real eye opener to find out just how far we walked each day. When asked one day I guessed 5km whereas it was close to 9km!
Of course every step counts so we basically doubled the straight line distance. That explains why I have no trouble sleeping at nights!
