Monthly Highlights
Below are photos and a story from the recent month's guided fly fishing trips in New Zealand's Central South Island.
February 2015
The very long stretch of settled weather continued right through February into March with just the occasional day of cloud and wind. The little rain that fell was barely enough to settle the dust let alone create a much needed fresh in the rivers.
Long standing client Jacques accompanied by guest Dominique, were here early February and enjoyed good success. The reduced river flows meant that selecting each day's venue was of paramount importance to ensure getting trout to the net.
Low river levels mean lethargic and spooky fish so presentation is of utmost importance.
At the end of the day if there is little insect activity in the river fishing will be tough with early season tactics ceasing to function. A much more tactical and technical approach is necessary to entice trout to the fly.
Of course Cicadas, when present, make for easier angling..
Dominique and Jacques stuck to the task at hand and a few of their successes are captioned below
They don't come much better than this!
