Youngsters rule!
It's been some time (due to covid) since young Lorenzo last visited Twizel. Accompanied by his girlfriend May, grandad Alain and Sylvie the Bernards are loyal fishing clients from way back. In fact Lorenzo was only 14 when I first taught and guided him, my youngest client by far! What impresses me most about this lad is his ability to learn and then execute to perfection what he has just learned! I would say to Lorenzo "you need to cast such and such way" and hey presto, the perfect cast would follow! That is very rare in the angling world.
Some folk know what they need to do but struggle to put that into practice. Not Lorenzo! That's not to say he lands every fish he casts to - that's an impossibility for anyone. Missed strikes or breakages and trout spitting the hook are part and parcel of fly fishing......
May is new to fly fishing but very motivated, patient and tenatious and will be an excellent fly fisher in the future. She already has her first trout on the fly achieved with no outside help at all!"

Cela faisait un petit moment (covid oblige) que le jeune Lorenzo et sa famille étaient venu à Twizel. Avec sa compagne May, son grand-père Alain et Sylvie, la famille Bernard est client chez moi depuis très longtemps. Seulement 14 ans à l'époque mais déjà hyper motivé, c'était un plaisir à l'enseigner. Etant très attentif, il arrivait déjà à exécuter ce qu'il venait d'apprendre avec aplomb. Je lui disais "tu as besoin de faire comme ceci" et hop, chose faite! C'était quand même étonnant puisque entre savoir ce qu'il faut faire et pouvoir de le mettre en oeuvre ce n'est pas évident. Cela ne veut pas dire qu'il mettait à l'épuisette chaque truite tentée - dans la pêche à la mouche c'est impossible! Des ratés au ferrages, décrochages et cassés font parti du jeu.
May est débutante dans la pêche à la mouche mais a déjà réussie à en prendre avec une belle arc qu'elle a pêchée vraiment toute seule. Les truites ne font pas de différence entre les pêcheurs expérimentés et ceux qui apprennent à pêcher alors je lui dis "chapeau"!
